Located in the eastern part of the Amazon Rainforest, in the Brazilian state of Pará, Jari, in a municipality where unclear land tenure laws, widespread land speculation, overall weak law enforcement and cattle ranching are as many drivers of deforestation.
Throughout the life span of the project, it is estimated that 50,480 hectares of forest will be saved from destruction thanksto the activities implemented. This will protect 340 species offlora and 2,070 species of fauna, 133 of which are endangered. The project meets the Gold Level Biodiversity Criteria - Exceptional Benefits to Biodiversity, according to thevulnerability criterion described by the Community Climate and Biodiversity Standards.
By fighting against deforestation, this project will protect the habitat of numerous species, preserve and increase carbon stocks in the forest, and help develop a sustainable local economy. We calculated emission reductions based on a methodology approved by VERRA's Verified Carbon Standard.
